We love living green here at Fairfield, which is why we are going to share 2 of the best DIY all purpose eco-friendly and chemical-free cleaning solutions! The first one is a lavender mint all purpose cleaner and the second one is a natural citrus all purpose cleaner. They’re both super easy to whip up and, in the long run, they cost a fraction of the price of store-bought cleaners. Plus, they’re not harmful to you, your kids, your pets, or the environment – score! Along with the recipes, we’ll go into detail about why each ingredient is used and is great for cleaning. So, here’s to green cleaning!
Lavender Mint All Purpose Cleaner
This specific recipe is from DIY Natural. The ingredients you will need to make this awesome all purpose cleaning solution are a glass spray bottle, hydrogen peroxide, and essential oils (lavender, lemon, and peppermint). The exact measurement are as follows:
Why hydrogen peroxide? It’s anti-fungal, anti-mold, anti-bacterial, AND anti-mildew! Also, it’s non-toxic.
Why essential oils? Lavender is anti-bacterial and is a good deodorizer. Lemon and peppermint are anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and they also add a fresh clean scent.
Why an opaque glass spray bottle? Hydrogen peroxide is sensitive to heat and light which is why an opaque bottle needs to be used. The reason it should be a glass bottle is because the essential oils can react with the plastic in a plastic bottle.
Natural Citrus Cleaner
This recipe is provided by Wellness Mama. There are a couple more ingredients in this recipe versus the previous recipe, but this one is still very easy to make! Since this recipe contains washing soda, do not use it on aluminium, waxed or varnished surfaces or fiberglass. For this cleaner, you will need:
Why borax? It’s great disinfectant. It also kills mold and inhibits the growth of mold.
Why washing soda? It cleans tough messes, cuts grease, and brightens surfaces.
Why castile soap? It cuts through grime and grease. It’s also eco-friendly and non-toxic.
Why orange essential oil? It’s anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic, and leaves a fresh citrus scent.
