"Leaf Peeping" on the East Coast

September 28, 2016

Along with the beautiful weather that fall bestows upon us, it also brings the gorgeous changing of leaves.  The deep ambers, oranges, and yellows of the trees are undoubtedly breathtaking!  If you have never gone leaf peeping before, this fall is the time to go – head out on an adventure in the great outdoors and soak in all the beauty.  The East Coast has some of the most amazing leaf peeping in the U.S.  Just take a look at these incredible photos and start dreaming up your weekend getaway, no matter which state you’re in.

Virginia – There is an iconic driving route through Shenandoah National Park called Skyline Drive (featured above).  If you live in Virginia, you MUST put this on your fall bucket list – it’s a jaw-dropping drive!  It’s only a little over an hour drive from our Ashborough Apartments in Ashburn.  The road takes you through the entire length of the national park and is about 105 miles long – totally worth the drive!

New Jersey – Wharton State Forest in New Jersey is the perfect place to go check out the fall foliage!  Being only a 30 minute drive from our Ramblewood Village Apartments makes this a great day trip option!  Go hiking, biking, boating, canoeing, and horseback riding through this gorgeous state forest and see all the beautiful fall leaves.  The best times to go are late October through early November.

Connecticut – I can safely say that Connecticut in the fall is absolutely breathtaking!  This fall, take a drive or a stroll and go leaf peeping – you won’t regret it!  The leaves in the Northeast and Northwest corners will begin to change first, then eventually the changing will move down into the valleys and hit the shoreline.  The peak times are early October through early November (find out more here).  Also, scenic driving routes can be found all over the state.  Highlighted below in red is route 1 – it’s close to two Fairfield properties – 597 Westport in Norwalk and Grand Reserve Orange in Orange.  You can also find some great scenic views and hiking trails throughout the state.
