An Apartment State Of Mind

Have you ever walked into your closet and almost experienced a panic attack at the sight of the chaotic mess? At times, it looks like a tornado decided to wreak havoc in my closet – it’s disastrous! It’s not that my clothes are strewn all over the floor; it’s more about clothing falling off the hangers, hangers that don’t fit, and just overall disorganization. So, I finally decided it was time to give my closet a makeover.
First and foremost, I emptied my entire closet and then either donated or tossed out clothes that hadn’t been worn in forever. Then, everything got put into its designated “zone” – dress clothes, athletic clothes, t-shirts, dresses, etc. Finally, it all slowly made its way back into the closet using the following ideas:
S Hooks do a great job of hanging items such as hats, jeans, shorts, and bags. I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this sooner – so many clothing stores display their jeans like this! Check out Etsy for some really cute and elegant options for S hooks!
Towel racks work really well as necklace and bracelet organizers. Your jewelry will never get tangled up ever again if you hang them up on their own little hooks! This is yet another place where S hooks come in super handy! The chic towel racks used in the photo below are from Hobby Lobby.
Shower curtain rings are awesome for hanging scarves. All you have to do is attached them to a clothes hanger and, voila, you’ve got a scarf organizer! We love the teal shower curtain rings and wooden hangers from Bed Bath & Beyond. P.S. This idea also works well for baseball caps!
Wooden ladder shelving is great for organizing and displaying your shoes. It will require a little DIY but it’s so worth it! You can usually find old, antique-y ladders at your local flea market or swap meet, or, hardware stores will typically carry a handful of them – like this wooden ladder from Ace Hardware. While you’re at the hardware store, pick up some wooden planks to make the actual shelving. Stain and paint however you desire, or just leave the natural wood look!
Drawer organizers work perfectly for undergarments. If you can’t stand the sight of your undergarment drawer, then you should probably check out this great drawer organizer kit from Amazon! I can see a million other uses for this as well – socks and ties just to name a few!
