Gym membership: we all buy into the New Year’s Resolution of getting fit, but how many of us actually use the expensive little card that is supposed to whip us into shape? NEWSFLASH: You don’t really need a gym to get fit. Here are a few fitness hacks to stay in shape, sans membership. The world is your oyster—er, gym.
1. Running, jogging, brisk walking: all of these exercises are great. You know what equipment you need to do them? Your body—nothing more and nothing less. You know what else is great? The outdoors. Put two and two together, and you’ll have an awesome outdoor workout.
2. SQUAT IT OUT. Squats make the booty grow. If you need an extra challenge, try these squat variations. Again, all you need is your body and a nice flat surface. Remember: see the booty, feel the booty, be the booty.
3. Don’t forget about the upper-body. Push-ups work the core, chest, and arms in one fluid movement. Step your game up with these push-up variations. To quote the great Salt N’ Pepa, “Ah, push it, push it good!”
4. Get your zen on. Stretch it out with these beginner yoga moves. Bonus points if you strike a pose outdoors, take a picture, post it on IG and tag us. #basiczen
5. Pilates and blogging are two of my favorite things, and it’s Cassey Ho’s too. Blogilates offers a plethora of fun Pilates videos, all free of charge and guaranteed to give you a nice workout.
6. Makin’ my way downtown, bikin’ fast, faces pass & I’m homebound. Vanessa Carlton would definitely approve of biking a thousand miles. Not only are you fitting in a workout, but it’s an alternate way of commuting. Two birds with one stone? Ooh, kill it.
The great thing about these workouts is you don’t need a gym or equipment, and can adjust them to your schedule. If you REALLY want a gym, don’t forget Fairfield Residential Apartments offer fitness centers right outside your door, pro bono. Have more #fithacks? Share them with us @ #FairfieldFitness!
Stay fit and prosper.
