An Apartment State Of Mind

Sometimes there’s nothing worse than opening your fridge to find it a complete mess. The truth is fridges get messy easily – food spoils, liquids spill, and half the time you forget what’s in the very back. If we’re being honest, most of us don’t clean our fridges on a regular basis, which means all that clutter builds up. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Decluttering your fridge doesn’t have to be as painful as it sounds. If you can train yourself to keep your fridge tidy, you won’t be overwhelmed with a big mess to clean up just to unload your fresh groceries. Try these tips to keep your fridge clean in less time!
Weekly Clean Out– If you work in an office, you might find a sign on the office fridge that says all food will be thrown out Friday afternoon. There’s a good reason for this! Can you imagine a whole office of people leaving their food in there for weeks on end? It would be a disaster. So why should it be any different for a home fridge? Clean out the old food on a regular basis. This will ensure you don’t leave food in the back of your fridge for weeks, or worse, months. The best time to do this is before you go grocery shopping. The only thing worse than a messy fridge is a messy fridge that you have to clean in a hurry because you have fresh groceries sitting out.
There’s a Place for Every Item – The key to decluttering your fridge is organization. It doesn’t sound fun, but boy does it keep things tidy in what could be considered the black hole of food. This way you can quickly put away groceries and easily clean out your fridge weekly. Stick with this method and you’ll find yourself happy to open your fridge instead of it being a constant reminder that you need to clean!
Break Out the Cleaning Supplies – If wiping down your fridge on a weekly basis is too much of a chore in addition to cleaning it out, doing it on a monthly basis will do. But we don’t suggest waiting longer than that. If there’s anything worse than a messy fridge that you can clean out quickly, it’s a fridge with a ton of stains left from food that are difficult to remove. So spare yourself the headache and do more frequent quick cleanings so you’re not left with hours spent cleaning on a Saturday.
Follow these tried and true tactics and you’ll be saying “ahh” instead of “ew” every time you open your fridge.
