How to Celebrate Grandparents Day 2020

This September 13th is National Grandparents Day! This holiday got its start in the 1970s when it was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 and then was made official on September 6th, 1979. It designated the first Sunday after Labor Day going forward.

This is the perfect opportunity to show your grandparents how much you care. With social distancing still in place in 2020, here’s how you can celebrate Grandparents Day while keeping your grandparents safe:

• Write your grandparents a letter. This now old-school tradition can really brighten someone’s day. When you receive a letter as opposed to an email or text, think about how special it can make someone feel. Your grandparents will especially appreciate it.
• Send a greeting card. If writing a whole letter seems overwhelming send a greeting card with a sweet note to acknowledge how much you appreciate your grandparents.
• Visit with social distancing in place. As much as we’d all love to hug our grandparents right now, to keep them safe it’s best to practice social distancing at this time. Since the weather is still warm in September, get together outside while practicing social distancing and wearing masks. Simply space some chairs apart in a circle to converse.
• Help out grandparents with favors. Go to the grocery store or do errand shopping for your grandparents. Not only will they appreciate the help, but you’re also helping to keep them safe during this ongoing pandemic.

Now more than ever we need to take the time to appreciate our grandparents and elderly! If anything this year has shown that taking care of our elderly population is a must and that also means showing appreciation this Grandparents Day.
