5 Apps to Help You Workout at Home

May 18, 2017

Workout apps are becoming more and more like personal trainers, except without the dollar sign attached to them! For a good fitness app, the price is about the same as a cheap gym membership per month. They tell you when and how long you should be working out, and most importantly, how to do it. And you don’t even have to leave your apartment.

A fitness app might be the right fit for you if:

  • You need someone to motivate you to workout or else you won’t.
  • You need someone to teach you how to workout.
  • You need a reminder to workout.
  • You’re on a budget.
  • You’re on a time crunch.
  • You want to be able to get an intense workout at home.
  • You want to be told exactly what to do during your workout and how long to do it.

If that sounds good to you, let’s look at the top 5 apps to help you workout at home!

Sworkit – The fitness app that was featured on Shark Tank allows you to pick the type of workout you want (Strength, Stretching, Cardio, Pilates, Yoga) and the time. The plus being you can cater your workout to your schedule. The app features video demonstrations by real trainers. Their app is free, but they also have a premium version with more features.

Sweat with Kayla – There is only a premium version for this app, but it may be well worth the price. If you don’t want to be in charge of picking your exercise routines and just want someone to show you exactly what to do to get fit, then this is the app for you. Each week includes three resistance training workouts, plus a weekly meal plan and workout planner to get in your cardio in as well. The app is aimed towards women and the results photo testimonials are pretty amazing!

Nike + Training Club App – This adaptive fitness app features over 100 workouts that you can customize to your needs and ability. It also takes into consideration all activities (just manually enter your other workouts such as yoga, team sports, swimming, etc) to adapt their personalized Nike workouts around your schedule. Great for active people who want that extra guidance. Extra bonus? This app is free!

Yoga Studio App – Instead of getting an expensive membership to your local yoga studio, just use this app for $4.99! Take video classes on this app, plus create your own class schedule each week. This is a great option for our residents who are living at communities with a yoga studio on the premises. Just take your phone with you for your own private yoga class.

Freeletics – The before and after photos on their site are very inspiring. This is a free workout app that gives you a variety of workouts with no excuses. It’s like having a real trainer by your side. Just try pausing the workout or quitting, they aren’t happy and it comes across in the app! If you need someone to tell you to keep going, this is the app for you. Their premium version offers a training schedule each week.

Working out at home is easier to ever thanks to technology. Plus if you’re a Fairfield resident, chances are your community features a fitness center. Taking advantage of both these options will keep you in shape without spending gobs of extra money on a gym membership. Win win!
