The DC Metro Virginia area is characterized by its important and proud military history. Hosting memorials of wars past and museums highlighting key war locations, attractions such as Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery stand proudly in the hearts of Virginians. As a historic location, DC Metro Virginia has many unique and culturally important buildings from times gone by preserving a true sense of patriotism. Manassas, in particular, has a high concentration of historical sites with battlefields, civil war museums, and parks built on top of military landmarks.

Military importance remains in the DC Metro Virginia today as it is the home of The Pentagon, the US Ministry of Defence which receives over 106,000 visitors annually. The CIA has also chosen the northern Virginia area to be their base, adding to its defensive importance.

The Arlington area is right across the Potomac River from Washington DC and has more of an urban feel than its adjacent cities. Many government and state jobs are available making it a great choice for working families. Education thrives in the area with Arlington's public school being recognized for high achievement, and when combined with an abundance of pet-friendly parks, open spaces, and cultural museums, Arlington has become a top consideration for family life.

If commuting across the border to Washington DC is more a necessity then the cities of Fairfax, Ashburn or Woodbridge are better suited. Washington DC is only a handful of miles away from these towns and public transport links make it easily accessible. That isn't to say more local opportunities aren't available, Ashburn has a bright high-tech industry and education facilities such as George Washington University and Strayer University help to support locals not wishing to commute.
