While summer may get the most love for being the best time to camp, fall is actually an ideal time to hit the road. Temperatures are cooler and you can go to those places that are usually too hot during the summer. Plus you can get cozy in your camper instead of feeling like you need to travel with a portable fan. Let’s check out some of the best spots to go van camping this autumn!
The Southwest
Enjoy the sun during the day and chillier temperatures at night once fall rolls around. There are so many amazing places to go camping in your van in this area of the US.
Check out the deserts in California like Joshua Tree, Mojave, and Borrego Springs where you’ll actually be able to go hiking during the day instead of staying under the shade
Head to Sedona, AZ for gorgeous hikes and plenty of camping spots. There’s even overnight parking perfect if you’re staying in your van and don’t want to pay extra for a campsite.
Utah is a road tripper’s dream. You’ll see some of the most amazing landscape in the country between Monument Valley, Zion and Bryce Canyon.

Pacific Northwest
Having a van is the ideal camping set up in this part of the country. You’ll be protected from the rain and still get to enjoy gorgeous views, hikes and camping areas.

East Coast
Head out for some epic camping before the end of the year. Pocahontas State Park in Virginia is open until November and boasts 80 miles of hiking and biking trails.
Hit the Cape Cod coast for uncrowded beach trails at their National Seashore and Area Campground in Massachusetts. View landmark lighthouses along with plenty of beautiful national preserves.
Or just take a weekend road trip to see the changes of the leaves. It’s truly a beautiful time of the year on the east coast!
