An Apartment State Of Mind
January 15, 2022
Raising a family in an apartment may not seem like the ideal living situation, but you might be surprised at its many benefits. Most of us have grown up with the American dream of owning a home, but with home prices skyrocketing today, it’s just not a financially sound option for many people. And that’s okay! Life is tough enough as it is raising a family without the added stress of a mortgage payment and home maintenance costs. Apartment living allows you to focus on what you need to focus on whether that be your work, your family or just enjoying life as an empty nester. For those raising children, the time and money saved on leasing an apartment rather than a 30-year mortgage bought at the height of the market can not only give you peace of mind but also more time quality time with your kids.
The Benefits of Raising a Family in an Apartment
Save time on yard work and up keeping the house when you rent. You can spend your weekends with your kids instead of the many chores involved in keeping a single family home.
Who needs a yard when you have a pool and playground nearby? Many parents ideally would like a yard for their kids to play in, but as long as there are neighborhood playgrounds nearby (not to mention on-site community playgrounds and pool areas!), you’ll have plenty of outdoor activity options.
Smaller one level floorplans are a blessing in disguise. Bigger isn’t always better, especially when it comes to keeping tabs on your kids. In an apartment, you’re just a few feet from seeing what your kids are up to instead of a flight of stairs away. Plus, smaller floorplans allow for less time cleaning! And who doesn’t want that?
Renting means flexibility. When you buy a home, you’re making a huge commitment to the area you’re living in and local job opportunities. But what if you or your partner are offered the job of a lifetime in another city? Sure, it may be easy to sell your house in today’s market (depending on your location), but what if the market dips? Owning a home limits your flexibility in being able to move quickly and without hassle.
Renting offers a more simple way of life. When you own a home all maintenance emergencies, landscaping and up keeping the home are on you financially not to mention time spent. However, when you rent you’re paying for the convenience of having that taken care of for you. Which means more quality time spent with the kids.
More opportunities to live in the locations you desire. Because a home is such a huge investment, buying instead of renting may limit the locations you can afford to live. Renting offers the opportunity to live in areas that wouldn’t be able to afford to buy. If you want your child to go to school in a certain school district, but can’t afford to buy a home in that area, renting is the next best option.
As you can see renting an apartment has plenty of benefits that allow not only money saved, but also offers more flexibility and family time. A win-win!
