An Apartment State Of Mind
April 15, 2020
Whether you’re familiar with the show Tidying Up on Netflix or not, Spring Cleaning can have a whole new purpose for you in 2020. Instead of the traditional thought process of organizing, throwing out what you don’t use and cleaning your house from top to bottom, this year think of it as a practice that brings more joy to your life.
In the show Marie Kondo helps out tons of people drowning in a sea of stuff they can never seem to get on top of. Most participants are families or working professionals that don’t have a lot of time to devote to massive cleaning marathons, but one thing is for sure. Once they go through her process they all seem much more at ease and happy.
So this year when your spring cleaning process, take a look at each item and ask yourself if it brings you joy, like Marie suggests. Be honest with yourself and dump the stuff that feels like a burden. It’s amazing how much that can make you feel better! It’s actually a very addictive process and you may find yourself actually excited to clean this spring!
Start with the area that’s feeling like a heavy burden and tackle it. For some it might be a junk drawer or closet, or organizing your wardrobe and clearing out what you no longer wear. Give yourself one project at a time. Although participants on the show usually spend multiple days cleaning, you can spread out which areas to organize over a couple of weekends depending on the size of your apartment.
Action Plan for Cleaning with Purpose:
Hopefully these recommendations will inspire you to enjoy the spring cleaning process a little more this year!
