An Apartment State Of Mind
October 3, 2019
Year in and out, many of us have known someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women of all ages have been stricken with this disease, but the good news is more and more women are surviving. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we want to highlight some of the top organizations making huge advancements in preventing, treating, and helping to cure this deadly disease. If you would like to donate to help those in need, any one of these charities are a great pace to start!
National Breast Cancer Foundation – The organization supports women in providing early detection services by offering free mammograms and diagnostic services for women in need, as well as support and education.
They also provide HOPE Kits which are filled with comforting items for patients dealing with breast cancer.
“National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34. At the time of her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options.
After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.”
Breast Cancer Prevention Partners – This organization wants to stop breast cancer before it starts. That’s why they focus on science and preventing toxic ingredients from entering the products we use on a daily basis. They provide a ton of education surrounding products and toxins to avoid in beauty, food, and cleaning products.
“For over 25 years, we have been the leading science-based policy and advocacy organization working to prevent breast cancer by eliminating our exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation. Our focus is on the intersection of breast cancer prevention and environmental health.
Founded in 1992 by Andrea Ravinett Martin (1947 – 2003), we have grown to become one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the public health crisis of breast cancer, with an unwavering focus on prevention.”
Breast Cancer Research Foundation – Did you know that deaths by breast cancer have declined by 40% in the last 25 years? Still, about 40,000 women lose their lives to breast cancer each year currently. This organization supports researchers worldwide by providing grants to find a cure for breast cancer. With over 200 of the top researchers receiving their grants, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation had aided much of the progress that has been made, but there’s much more to do prevent and cure breast cancer.
“Twenty-five years ago, Evelyn H. Lauder and Dr. Larry Norton recognized the urgent need to eradicate breast cancer. As they sat at the Lauder kitchen table discussing how to achieve their shared dream of a world free of breast cancer, they envisioned the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Since 1993, BCRF-supported investigators have been deeply involved in every major breakthrough in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.”
