An Apartment State Of Mind
February 18, 2016
It’s February and in most parts of the country, still pretty cold outside. And while there’s probably been a plethora of rainy days since the start of winter, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take advantage of the next one. After all, isn’t it fun lighting candles, getting comfy on the couch and hearing the rain hitting the rooftop? We think so!
Netflix Marathon Need we say more? The ultimate go-to rainy day activity in this modern tech age is taking advantage of that Netflix account you have. Or for that matter, HBO Now or Hulu. There’s no shortage of movies and TV series to allow you to linger on the couch for hours upon hours while it’s dark and stormy outside. Never had time to start that series you’ve been wanting to for months? Here’s your chance.
Making Popcorn and Baking Cookies When there’s shows to be watched, there better be snacks to be eaten simultaneously. And what better snacks for a rainy day than popcorn and cookies? In fact, if you’re going to have a Netflix marathon, some may say popcorn is required. And while we’re on the subject of food, isn’t something sweet a requirement while watching movies as well? The best way to go about this is pop popcorn and bake cookies pre-Netflix, then enjoy your goodies for the rest of the day.
Cuddle & Snuggle Once Netflix is set up and snacks are prepared, you know what the next step is: grab that fluffy blanket and get comfy on the couch. Snuggle up to your loved one and enjoy being allowed to be lazy for a day!
Card Games This is a great activity anytime you’re bored or are without the convenience of power. So if the lights go out, it’s time for candles and card games. With a standard pack of 52 cards you can play Poker, Bridge, Gin Rummy, War, Hearts and a zillion more games. Want to invite friends who have a wicked sense of humor over for a game night? There’s always Cards Against Humanity.
Monopoly When you have a lot of time on your hands and not much to do, we all know which game can fill up huge spans of time. Monopoly! This is the perfect game to play with friends or family on a rainy afternoon or evening because it gets everyone involved, can take hours to play and the competition will keep you distracted from the fact that you can’t go outside.
Create an Indoor Fort You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy an indoor fort. Of course, if you have kiddos at home, this may be the perfect rainy day activity. Kind of like bringing outside playtime inside. Grab those extra sheets and start building an epic fort that will protect everyone from the pouring rain outside. You can even watch a movie and enjoy popcorn from within your fort. The possibilities are endless.
Write In Your Journal Sometimes when it’s gloomy out, it’s nice to just spend some time reflecting and writing. Getting cozy on the couch and putting the pen to the paper can almost be a meditative exercise.
Sip on Hot Chocolate Lift your spirits during not so nice weather with something sweet like hot cocoa. Sipping hot chocolate can literally be combined with any of these other rainy day activities (except you might want to be careful mixing hot chocolate with fort building). Cold and thirsty during Monopoly? Writing in your journal? Need something to drink between eating popcorn and cookies? Hot chocolate is your go-to rainy day drink.
