We know our residents are big fans of Netflix and other streaming platforms. Really, what better way is there to end the day than getting comfy on the couch and streaming your favorite show? We’re not going to lie, we absolutely love it. And, in case you’re looking for something new, we decided to share 13 of the best shows currently streaming on Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Amazon.
By no means is this list exhaustive, but you may find your new binge-worthy show! There’s no shortage of thrilling storylines, lovable characters and laugh out loud comedy in this bunch. Without further adieu, let check ’em out!
13 Streaming TV Shows You Won’t Want To Miss
Mozart in the Jungle – Prepare to be delighted with this 30 minute comedy-drama on Amazon featuring the charming Gael Garcia Bernal as Rodrigo, the new eccentric conductor of the New York Symphony. Mozart takes you into the quirky world of classical music in NY with some of the most lovable characters we’ve come across in a long time. Even if you’re not a fan of classical music, this modern take on the genre may turn you into one.
Stranger Things – If you haven’t heard of Stranger Things, you must have spent the last year living off the grid, because now that Season 2 is out on Netflix, it’s all people are talking about! And for good reason, because this show has both a heart, suspense, horror, comedy and an amazing 80s soundtrack. Plus Winona Ryder and Sean Astin! An essential watch for those who grew up watching The Goonies and E.T.
Ballers – This new version of the classic HBO show Entourage takes place in Miami with Dwayne Johnson playing a lovable ex-football player and financial advisor to a slew of pro football players constantly getting themselves into trouble. HBO’s top-ranked comedy this decade, Ballers is a perfect escape if you yearn for yacht parties and living the high life in Miami…all with a sense of humor, of course.
The OA – This surprise hit is renewed for a second season on Netflix and we can’t wait! The OA is a suspenseful part science fiction, fantasy and heart-wrenching drama with so many twists and turns, it’s best we don’t give you a synopsis! All we can say is start watching the first couple of episodes and you’ll be hooked.
Ozark – If you miss Breaking Bad and Sopranos with a vengeance, Ozark on Netflix is for you. We love Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as the upper-middle-class couple on the brink of destruction, trying to hold their family together while working an undercover money laundering business for a drug cartel. Suspenseful to say the least, with a little bit of humor, it’s has a dark storyline, but charming characters. However, this is not for the faint of heart.
Empire – You can’t beat the drama of Lucious and Cookie Lyon, the powerhouse couple and music moguls who created record company, Empire. Nothing is off limits in the world of Empire, which makes it so enticing to watch. Between drama, humor, and plenty of catfights, this is definitely binge-worthy. Currently on Hulu.
Friends from College – Miss Friends? You might want to check out this show, which centers around a group of New York City friends in their 30s. Full of comedy and high drama, you’ll zip through the whole first season in a day!
Westworld – What blockbuster movies used to be like, HBO’s Westworld is an epic thriller of science fiction in the old west with a cast of character you’ll grow to adore and hate. If you loved the flick Ex Machina, you’ll love Westworld. Why? Because it’s a western theme park full of AI robots that look human and have a mind of their own, and well, things get a little dicey. With so much adventure, suspense and drama in this high-tech western, we absolutely cannot wait until season 2!
Halt and Catch Fire – The underdog of dramas for the thinking man or woman, Halt and Catch Fire gets our vote for one of the best shows out there. Taking place in the early 80s, Halt centers around the boom of the personal computer and all the quirky characters that come with it. If you love tech, drama, and a killer 80s soundtrack, you should definitely check out this A&E show currently streaming on Netflix.
The Jinx – Love murder mysteries? Then you’ll be obsessed with this 6 episode series on HBO that takes you into the dark mind of suspected serial killer and real estate heir, Robert Durst. Literally. Robert allows filmmaker Andrew Jarecki to film him in this documentary about the murders he supposedly committed as he tries to clear his name. The twist at the end will leave you speechless.
Black Mirror – The new season of Black Mirror premiered on Netflix this year and explores this crazy world of technology we live in – is it actually doing us more harm than good? Each episode explores a new story. The first centers in a world where people get ratings on their character…sort of like a Yelp for people. Scary stuff! You won’t be able to stop watching.
Divorce – We’re so happy Sarah Jessica Parker is back on HBO with her new show Divorce. A comedy-drama with an equally amazing performance by Thomas Haden Church, they play a middle-aged couple going through a nasty divorce and all the all high drama that comes with it. Luckily, there are tons of laughs to make this show charmingly real.
Gypsy – Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup star in this sexy thriller about a psychologist gone rogue. There’s nothing Naomi’s character won’t lie about to keep her secret nightlife from her husband and colleagues. Sadly, it wasn’t renewed for a second season, but the first is sure a fun watch!
