An Apartment State Of Mind
June 30, 2014
We’ve all been there at one time or another – moving into a new apartment, only to find the huge, comfy sofa we had in our last place doesn’t fit. As a matter of fact, the living room that looked so huge when it was empty now seems like a shoe box. The dilemma: Finding furniture for small spaces while keeping it functional and comfortable.
Here are 3 tips on making the most of your small space:
1. Use multi-functional furniture: The best furniture for small apartments is the kind that serves multiple purposes. Think about the ottoman that can act as a coffee table, foot rest, and storage space all in one or a table that hides extra seating.
2. Avoid the temptation of putting the furniture up against the wall: You may think that putting your furniture as tightly against the wall as possible will leave more free space and leave your room looking bigger. Think again! Furniture for small spaces looks better when it’s thoughtfully designed and has room to breathe on all sides.
3. Don’t be scared of large furniture: You might think that larger furniture will make your room feel crowded. The opposite is actually true. A few big pieces give the eye a place to focus, as opposed to a jumble of small items. Stick to statement pieces with small accents to make the décor pop in a small space.
