America Recycles Day: Recycle Moving Boxes

November 15, 2019

When we move we may not think of the impact it has on the environment. Often we toss out old cardboard moving boxes once we’re finished with them, but have you ever stopped to wonder how much those boxes add up over a lifetime?

The average person moves 11 times over their lifetime, and one tree equals 151 moving boxes – meaning one person can save 5.5 full grown trees by reusing or recycling moving boxes.

To cut down your impact, simply store the boxes in a dry area of your garage, under your bed or in a closet for use next time move. If you don’t see yourself moving for years to come or don’t have room to save used cardboard boxes, be sure to recycle them.

Over 1/2 of recycled cardboard boxes are used to make:

  • New moving boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Printer paper
  • Shoe boxes

To get the full impact of how a small thing like moving boxes can impact the environment, check out our infographic below!
